From
time to time, special training or educational opportunities
are presented by or for members of GFAARC. This
might include class instruction from the Red Cross in
First Aid, Disaster Assessment and
Management; classes given by the county or other
agencies, and classes given by the National Weather Service
to recruit and train special severe weather spotters.
Also included on this page will be notices of upcoming
Amateur Radio License classes for new hams or those who are
upgrading, or other classes of general interest to radio
amateurs.

Although most of the technical information
contained in the older "Now You're Talking" Study
Guides
is correct, the V.E.Test, Question Pool, and Classroom
instruction will be based on the NEW study guide, called
the "HAM RADIO LICENSE MANUAL"
This
Technician class is comprised of about 16 hours of instruction,
including:
Video
& Power Point Presentations, - Hands-On Displays & Demos
Practice Tests, - Class Discussions, and More!
The
class is is spread over TWO WEEKENDS (Friday Evenings &
Saturdays)
The Class has been Scheduled for the last weekend in October and
the
First weekend in March. Attendance at ALL FOUR sessions is
highly recommended.
INDEPENDENT STUDY OF THE LICENSE MANUAL IS REQUIRED !
FRIDAY EVENING October 26th from
6:00 to 9:00pm
SATURDAY October 27th from 10:00am
until 5:00pm
and again
on
FRIDAY EVENING November 2nd from
6:00 to 9:00pm
SATURDAY November 3rd from 10:00am
until 5:00pm
In all classes we stop for a 10
minute break approximately every hour.
Lunch Breaks will run as close as possible from NOON to 1:00pm
(Give or Take 10 Min)
The
Saturday session will include a one hour lunch break.
You are welcome to "brown bag" it and stay in the class
room, or
leave and return.
LOCATION OF THE CLASS WILL BE IN THE WESTGATE MALL

The cost of the Class is now $30.00
per person.
The cost INCLUDES $24.95 for the study guide /
operator's manual,
and the balance covers the fees involved with copying,
printing of the handouts
and other expenses involved with providing the class. (Equipment
maintenance, etc)
Families members, roommates (or whatever) can share
a single manual,
provided they will have ample time for individual study.
In this case the extra person will pay only $5.00 for the class.

NATIONAL WEATHER Service's
STORM SPOTTER TRAINING

This course is offered and conducted
by the National Weather Service Office here in Great Falls,
in association with the Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club,
and SKYWARN. It will consist of approximately two hours
of instruction on how to identify specific types of weather
events, how to assess their danger potential, and how to
report your information to the NWS. All materials are
provided by the National Weather Service.
