HISTORY:

The present day Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club was formed (and renamed) about 1977.  It was re-kindled from the original Electric City Radio Club, which drew it's name from the nickname of Great Falls, as being the "Electric City".  The original club was formed circa 1935, and ran until 1965. Remaining members of the original club thought the reformed club should encompass a larger area than just the local city, and thus decided to name it "Great Falls AREA Amateur Radio Club". GFAARC has been a continously active organization since 1977, and is recognized by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) as a "Special Service Club". The Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club (GFAARC) is an association of persons in the city of Great Falls and the surrounding rural areas of North Central Montana who have an interest in Amateur (HAM) Radio communications, and support the Mission Statement of the organization.  GFAARC also maintains a non-profit status as outlined by section 501 (c) 3 of the Federal Internal Revenue Code.  For further Details about tax deductible donations to our organization, please contact the club's president.

STRUCTURE:

The Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club is comprised of two categories of members which are Regular Members and Associate Members. Regular members consist of licensed Amateur Radio operators, and have full voting privileges, and elect from their group a president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary as officers of the association.  Also elected by the membership is a board of directors consisting of five regular members.  The Board of Directors serves primarily in an advisory capacity, recommending and suggesting, to the membership as opposed to actual decision making on their own.

Current Officers and Board members can be found by visiting our " Officers" page.

Assoicate (non-voting) memberships are available at a reduced cost to allow support of the club, it's repeaters and other programs by those who are unlicensed or those who may live outside the immediate area.  Other membership options are available to licensed spouses, family members, and individuals under 18 years old.
