Operation is straightforward and follows standard autopatch
conventions....
"STAR"
UP - "POUND" DOWN - - - ID BEFORE
AND AFTER USING.
Detailed Instructions Follow
1.) Make certain you are
on the correct frequency 147.300 (+)
2.) Of
Course, listen to make sure the repeater is not being
used.
3.) Push your PTT and ID with your
callsign, and state you are accessing the autopatch.
4.) If desired, you can release the PTT and
listen to verify the repeater is operating properly.
5.) Depress the * (star) key on your DTMF pad
and WITHOUT releasing the PTT button dial the telephone
number.
6.) Release the PTT, and
listen. You should hear the numbers you dialed repeated back to you
in morse code.
7.) Next, you will
hear a series of beeps while the autopatch controler completes your
call.
8.) You should then hear the
phone ringing.
9.) Remember when
your party answers they won't be
able to hear you until you key your mic and start talking.
10.) Briefly tell them you are
using the autopatch, so that they are aware of the following:
-
The
conversation may be monitored by quite a few individuals, and
therefore not as private as a standard telephone line
-- Watch language and topics
discussed.
-
Unlike the
standard or cellular telephone systems, the Autopatch is NOT
FULL DUPLEX you can't hear them when you are
talking.
-
NOTE: YOU are ultimately "IN
CONTROL and RESPONSIBLE" for anything the other person says
while using Amatuer Radio Frequencies! If they begin to say
something that is in violation of the rules and practices,
you should key your transmitter, muting THEIR transmission, and
allowing them to hear you. Explain again they are
NOT on a private line, and should restrain their
comments. If they persist, it is your responsibility to terminate
the autopatch connection. (see Below)
When you have finished
the conversation, key your transmitter, ID and state you are closing the autopatch, then
depress the # key. This will
terminate the connection to the phone line, and return the repeater to
normal operation.
